Two weeks ago, Last week, we brought you the news when James Badge Dale (World War Z) joined the cast of director Shane Black‘s forthcoming installment of Marvel Studios‘ wildly successful Iron Man franchise as a villain named Eric Savin, a character from Marvel Comics who was a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army that stepped on a landmine, and after being dead for 2.3 minutes, and then resurrected as the cyborg named Coldblood.

Now, we have some spoileriffic behind the scenes pics of James Badge Dale in costume on the North Carolina set of the film. The actor appears in a costume which likely looks familiar to fans of Iron Man comics. If you don’t want any spoilers for the film, turn back now… otherwise, check them out below!

Although SHH has since gotten confirmation that what we’re seeing is indeed Iron Patriot armor, due to the Crimson Dynamo/Whiplash character mashup in Iron Man 2, I’m guessing this is a Coldblood/Iron Patriot mashup.

Last week, we brought you the news about Ashley Hamilton (Femme Fatales) being in talks to portray the villain Firepower in Iron Man 3, and questioned if the third film was turning into an Extremis/Armor Wars mash-up. Now, I’m starting to think that we probably weren’t too far off.

Iron Man 3 is slated to hit theaters on May 3rd, 2013.
