Spider-Man: Martin Sheen To Play Uncle Ben, Sally Field In Talks To Play Aunt May

Back at the beginning of October, we brought you the news that Emma Stone (Easy A, Zombieland) was cast as Gwen Stacy in the Marc Webb directed Spider-Man reboot. Just two weeks later we found out that Rhys Ifans (Anonymous) had signed on to play the villain in the film, and while it was reported that the villain in question would be The Lizard, that has still not been confirmed by the studio.

Just last week, a rumor hit the web that John Slattery (Iron Man 2, Mad Men) and Sam Elliot (Ghost Rider, Tombstone) were at the top of the contenders list to play Peter Parker’s boss at The Daily Bugle, J. Jonah Jameson. Again, nothing has been confirmed by the studio.

Now, THR is reporting that Martin Sheen (Flatland) is in final talks to portray Ben Parker in the Untitled Spider-Man Reboot, and Sally Field (Brothers & Sisters) is in early talks to portray his wife Aunt May.

Ben Parker is the uncle and surrogate father of Peter Parker, and Aunt May is Parker’s aunt-by-marriage and adoptive mother.

After the death of Peter Parker’s parents, May and Ben took in the boy, Peter, and raised him at their home in the Forest Hills section of Queens. Ben immediately took to the role of the boy’s father, but May was at first reluctant. She still remembered her parents blaming her own birth for the destruction of their marriage, and she was afraid that Peter might signal the end of her own marriage. In time, however, she warmed up to Peter, who unexpectedly strengthened the couple’s marriage.

The Untitled Spider-Man Reboot is slated to hit theaters on July 3rd, 2012
