Spider-Man: Andrew Garfield Talks Spidey, Set Pics of Peter and Gwen

Back in November, we brought you an interview with Emma Stone where she spoke about rehearsals, learning chemistry, and leaving her red hair behind and returning to her natural blonde for the role of Gwen Stacy in Marc Webb‘s forthcoming, as yet Untitled Spider-Man Reboot. Then in December, we got our first look at Miss Stone, sporting her blonde hair for the film.

Now, both Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield have been captured on the set of the film, shooting a scene. The pictures give us our first look at Garfield as Spidey’s alter-ego, Peter Parker. Check out the pictures and some words about the film from Garfield below!

Speaking with The Guardian just before Christmas, Garfield told them about the schedule, the Spider suit and the balance between the webslinger and Parker:

“We started shooting two weeks ago and then we have Christmas off. Then we’re back into it for, gosh, I’m sure a fair bit of time. With this, it feels like I’m going to have to hibernate into this character for at least four or five months.”

“I feel like a kid in my pajamas. I can only say how it feels and it feels pretty special. It feels like a dream realized and a fantasy realized. Again, I don’t take it lightly and I feel very, very lucky that I get to wear spandex for the next couple of months.”

“I think Spider-Man needs strength, but Peter Parker is still a teenager, you know? That’s a very tender balance to figure out. It’s very specific what we’re trying to achieve in terms of body type and the feeling of that. Rest assured, there’s a lot of people helping me with that because I have no discipline in that respect. My father’s a swimming coach and I kind of rebelled against that very early on. Any kind form of physical discipline has to be cracked with a pretty firm whip.”

Speaking with Capital FM, Garfield spoke about how lucky he feels, having landed the role, how emotional it was to put on the suit for the first time, and trying to stay in shape:

“It’s going great and I’m having a fantastic time. We have such an amazing cast, so I’m heaven playing this role. I feel like a kid in the candy store, I’m one lucky boy I tell you.”

“It’s bizarre [wearing the Spider-Man suit] and I have to not look at my face. It’s strange and surreal to be wearing it and I won’t lie I actually shed a tear when I first wore the spandex for the first time. I didn’t expect to get so emotional but I did.”

“I have to keep watching what I eat and I love eating and eating the worst things. It’s really really hard, but I know that I have this responsibility to so many people to stay fit and trim and to basically not get obese!”

and, in other Spidey news…

During her recent appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Emma Stone was asked how long she was planning to keep her blonde hair. Stone said,

“There’s a few Spidermen, so I may have to keep it for a couple of years.”

It looks like the lovable Gwen Stacy won’t be having a funeral of her own very soon in Marc Webb‘s new Spider-Man universe.

The Untitled Spider-Man Reboot is slated to hit theaters on July 3rd, 2012
