Sony Pictures to Bring ASSASSIN’S CREED to the Big Screen

Back in May, French video game developer Ubisoft Entertainment embarked on a plan to make 3D movies based on three of their best-selling hit games, Assassin’s Creed, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell, and Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon. The three franchises combined have sold over 70 million copies.

Now, Variety reports that Sony Pictures is in final negotiations to distribute the big-screen adaptation of Assassin’s Creed. Earlier this year, Ubisoft announced that Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, the third console game in the franchise had shipped over 6 million copies, and as of this May, the first three main games in the franchise have sold almost 30 million copies worldwide.

The historical science fiction game Assassin’s Creed centers around the use of a machine dubbed “The Animus“, which allows its user to view the genetic memories of his or her ancestors, specifically a bartender named Desmond Miles. As Desmond relives the memories of one of his ancestors, the Assassin Altaïr Ibn-La’Ahad who lived in the Holy Land during the Third Crusade, details of a battle between two ancient sects, the Knights Templar and the Assassins, emerge as both scour for an artifact known only as a “Piece of Eden“.

The fourth game, Assassins Creed: Revelations hits stores on November 15th and is available for pre-order now.
