Director Guillermo Del Toro‘s (Hellboy, Pan’s Labyrinth) forthcoming monster movie Pacific Rim, which is scheduled to hit the big-screen in 2013 is said to feature giant, alien creatures who threaten Earth’s existence. Humanity then develops giant robots with advanced weaponry to fight them off. The film is reportedly influenced by mecha, the Japanese genre involving humans piloting robotic constructs.

Now, Deadline reports that Charlie Hunnam, who portrays Jax Teller in the FX series, Sons of Anarchy has scored the lead role in Del Toro’s monster/mecha flick. Though details on his role are being kept under wraps, Hunnam may very well end up piloting one of those Mechas in the film.

Pacific Rim is slated to hit theaters in 2013.
