Earlier this month, we brought you news that Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsman, starring Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron, and Chris Hemsworth, will be the first of a trilogy of films. Producer Joe Roth explained that this re-imagining of the classic fairytale would be similar to how Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland was done.
Now, the cast is being rounded out with the news from Variety that actor Nick Frost (Paul, Hot Fuzz) has been cast as the final dwarf in Snow White and the Huntsman. Frost joins Ian McShane, Toby Jones, Bob Hoskins, Eddie Marsan, Stephen Graham, and Ray Winstone as the seven dwarves.
The film is said to offer a different take on the classic fairy tale, having Snow White (Kristen Stewart) banished by the evil queen (Charlize Theron), and forming a bond with the man who was sent to kill her, The Huntsman (Chris Hemsworth). The Huntsman instead becomes her mentor, teaching her how to fight and defend herself and she “learns the ways of a warrior in the woods.”
Snow White and the Huntsman begins shooting this coming August and is slated to hit theaters on June 1st, 2012.
