SMALLVILLE Spoilers: Final Five Episodes of the Series Sees the Return of Familiar Faces

As the CW’s Smallville comes to a close, we will see the return of several familiar faces that will ultimately influence the Man of Steel’s origin story. Not only will we see the return of Jonathan Kent (John Schneider) in tonight’s all new episode, but the final five episodes of the series will also bring back Zod (Callum Blue), Kara aka Supergirl (Laura Vandervoort), Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum), and Chloe (Allison Mack.) Executive producer Kelly Souders teases what’s in store for fans for upcoming episodes “Kent,” “Booster,” “Dominion,” and “Prophesy.”

Tonight’s episode, “Kent” takes us to the other universe we saw in “Luthor” that aired in December. On that side, Jonathan Kent is not the Jonathan we know – This Jonathan is an “angry, pissed-off Jonathan.” Souders explains how this will impact Clark (Tom Welling.)

“Clark and his father have some things to work out, and believe me, watching [John] Schneider play the opposite of what we know him for is a blast… It ends up impacting Clark and some of the big decisions he’ll be having to make.”

In “Booster,” we’ll start to see the masquerade character of Clark begin to take shape. Souders talks about how Tom Welling tackled this episode:

“Watching Tom and the different avenues where he’s able to stretch his legs as an actor is so much fun and in ‘Booster’ we really get to see him delve much deeper into the classic Clark Kent we all know and love… Lois is very instrumental… as she and Clark Kent create this character.”

The Zod that appears in “Dominion” will be different that we’ve seen him before. Souders says:

“We haven’t seen this Zod before — he’s kind of a combination of all the different Zods we’ve seen [on Smallville] into one character. He’s not happy. He has not had a good couple of months.”

Kara has been busy herself as we will see in “Prophesy.” What draws her out to Metropolis at this time? Souders would only let on that Kara arrives “in an unexpected moment” and that “it becomes very clear that she’s been pretty busy with her own storyline.”

As for the two-hour series finale on May 13th, if you’re worried about Zack Snyder’s Superman movie impacting how Smallville will wrap up, breathe a little easier. Souders and company have been working alongside DC Comics:

“We work pretty closely with DC Comics, and everybody knew this [final arc] would be launching that concept of Superman, but it also is very much ending the chapter of Smallville. So no, there was nothing we had to pull back on. Everybody has been wonderful.”
