Despite rumors that Lex Luthor may be getting better from being dead in season eight of the CW’s “Smallville”, Michael Rosenbaum will not be coming back to play Lex in the show’s upcoming tenth season. The “good news” that Rosenbaum posted about on his Twitter account was not about returning to “Smallville” as fans had desperately hoped for.
Rosenbaum addressed the rumors saying:
“Sorry. It’s not ‘Smallville’ related. I’ve already stated that I’m not returning. I’d never lead you guys on like that. I appreciate your support.”
Still hush-hush about the “good news”, Rosenbaum threw fans a bone:
“Not the big big news yet,but I’ll be playing a really funny role in Adam F. Goldberg/Seth Gordon comedy Pilot for FOX,with Christian Slater.”
The Fox pilot Rosenbaum is referring to is an untitled comedy about computer hackers.
Rosenbaum left the show in season seven after a “devastating confrontation between Lex Luthor and Clark Kent at the Fortress of Solitude”. Luthor was heavily scarred in his season eight cameo before assumingly met his end in an explosion by Green Arrow. This version of the character was portrayed by another actor.
If the character of Lex Luthor is brought back, he could be played by another actor as the amount of physical damage endured would require substantial reconstructive surgery. But Geoff Johns has already hinted on the forces of Apokolips and Darkseid getting into the “Smallville” sandbox.
“Smallville” returns on April 2nd on the CW at 8/7 C.
