SMALLVILLE: Chloe Sullivan Makes Her First Appearance In DC Comics; Laura Vandervoort Talks Supergirl

Chloe Sullivan has made her mark on the Superman story through the CW series, Smallville, and DC Comics is recognizing her contribution with Chloe’s first comic book appearance in Action Comics #893. Chloe, played by Allison Mack, is the only character invented for the show that was not from the DC source material.

Nick Spencer, who wrote Chloe’s introduction into the DC Universe, talks about the challenge of her inclusion:

“It’s a pretty different continuity, which I think has always been the challenging part of bringing Chloe into the DC Comics Universe. She’s never existed in the comics before, so in order to make a part of Clark’s life when he was a teenager in Smallville, you’d have to do it somewhat retroactively, and it would age Chloe as a character a lot, since Superman is well past that part of his life in the books.”

According to Spencer, Chloe will be “a very successful and dedicated reporter and a major player in Metropolis” and “the same dogged, funny and principled girl we’ve all come to love.” Drawing from Smallville, Spencer has pulled in Chloe’s relationship with the Daily Planet photographer Jimmy Olsen:

“She and Jimmy have a previous relationship and that causes him to embark on a huge adventure that takes him across space and alternate realities to prove something to himself and her.”

The issue features art by R.B. Silva and hits comic book stands on September 29, 2010.
