So there will be a Skarsgard in the “Thor” movie after all! Swedish news site, Ystads Allehanda, reported that Stellan Skarsgard has been cast in the Kenneth Branagh– helmed, Marvel comic-to-film adaptation of “Thor”. No word on what role he has been cast for.
Skarsgard joins Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Samuel L. Jackson, Tom Hiddleston, Colm Feore and Jaimie Alexander on the cast. His son, Alexander Skarsgard who plays the vampire, Eric Northman, on HBO’s “True Blood”, was originally in the running to play the title role. It’s funny that Stellan Skarsgard is the only one of the cast who is actually Scandanavian, which still makes some fans angry that Alexander wasn’t cast as Thor.
“Thor” will begin shooting in January and is set to premiere on May 20, 2011.
