Last month, we told you that director Robert Rodriguez (Spy Kids 4, Machete) talked about the sequel to the 2005 adaptation of Frank Miller’s graphic novel Sin City. At a panel at this years Comic-Con, he stated that he could shoot Sin City 2 as early as this year.
In an interview with MTV News, Rodriguez was confident on casting stars for the sequel:
“I try to accommodate actors as much as possible, people I want to work with, so I’m constantly looking, ‘Are there any other bit parts that we can put somebody in and have some do something interesting?’ I try to pick stories that have a lot of different characters, so you have the opportunity to work with a lot of people. That’s how I did the first one, [I thought] ‘How can I adopt other characters from other stories and put them in there to have a wide range of cast?’ I would definitely want to do that for the second one.”
Rodriguez is not currently in talks with any star in particular yet since the script is still in the works:
“I haven’t had any conversations with the actors yet. You really have to have something completely written out to be able to go and show them and say, ‘Okay, this is a serious offer, come aboard.'”
As we previously reported, Frank Miller had been working on a script for the sequel. Rodriguez had hoped to bring Bruce Willis back for Sin City 2, but timing may become the issue now that Willis is confirmed for G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation. Another star rumored to be interested is Angelina Jolie. We’ll just have to wait as see who Rodriguez can work in to Sin City 2!
Financing has been secured for the film, but no release date has been set for Sin City 2.
