As if the lines for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey won’t be long enough already, there will potentially be a contingent of people who will leave before the movie even starts. That’s because IMAX today has announced that it will be screening the first 9 minutes of Star Trek Into Darkness in 500 IMAX 3D theaters beginning December 14. Yes, that’s the premiere date for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, which will be playing in IMAX 3D theaters as well as in other formats.
Deadline posted this quote from Greg Foster, Chairman and President, IMAX Filmed Entertainment:
“Our longtime partners J.J. Abrams, Bryan Burk and the Bad Robot team have really hit it out of the park – the footage is absolutely incredible. Their use of the IMAX Camera and canvas is sure to impress current and future Star Trek fans alike, and we’re thrilled to once again work with our friends at Paramount Pictures to offer this extended ‘first look’ at this highly anticipated summer blockbuster.”
We can just see the Venn diagram of fandoms now. So please join us in stocking up on at least two more hour’s worth of Things to Do and Eat While Standing in Line, well ahead of December 14, 2012. And let us know if anyone left the theater after that 9 minutes, but before The Hobbit.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, starring Martin Freeman and Ian McKellen, is slated to hit theaters on December 14, 2012.
Star Trek Into Darkness, starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, and Benedict Cumberbatch, is slated to hit theaters on May 17, 2013.
