Second Season Renewal for THE WALKING DEAD Was A “No Brainer” For AMC

AMC’s The Walking Dead has indeed been renewed for a second season. Not like it’s a huge surprise, but what’s an extra joyful bit of news is that AMC has ordered thirteen new episodes! That’s over twice as many episodes as the first season of six episodes.

Following the premiere episode that 5.3 million viewers devoured, the second episode clocked in at 4.7 million, not suffering too much in the expected second-episode ratings drop. This weekend’s ratings for the second episode made The Walking Dead the most watched cable television show in the 18-49 demographic. Charlie Collier, President of AMC talked about the show’s infectious quality:

“The Dead has spread! No other cable series has ever attracted as many Adults 18-49 as The Walking Dead. This reaffirms viewers’ hunger for premium television on basic cable. We are so proud to be bringing back The Walking Dead again, across the globe.”

Sharon Tal Yguado, SVP of Scripted Programming at AMC, called this renewal decision a “no brainer”:

“I wish all programming decisions were no brainers like this one. The Walking Dead is a TV masterpiece on so many levels. We want at least 10 seasons, if not more.”

Fox International Channels will carry the show internationally. The Walking Dead is pre-sold to reach across the globe and will distribute the series’ second season.

Watch The Walking Dead on AMC, Sundays at 10/9C.
