Sean Bean Takes Lead Role In HBO’s ‘Game Of Thrones’

sean_beanWoot!  Sean Bean has landed the lead role in HBO’s book to TV series adaptation of George R. R. Martin’s fantasy series,”Game of Thrones”.  You’ll remember Sean Bean most notably for playing Boromir in Lord of the Rings.  It always makes me happy to see him work!

On the “Game of Thrones” team is Tom McCarthy at the helm direction, David Denioff and D.B. Weiss with writer and executive producer hats.  Actors Kit Harrington, Jack Gleeson, and Harry Lloyd have signed on with Mark Addy in final negotiations.

This epic story is hard to explain.  My husband sums it up as “Lord of the Rings” meets “The Godfather”… and if you killed all of the Hobbits.  It is very realistic, incredibly detailed, and dark.

a-game-of-thronesAs described by THR:

Bean will play Lord Eddard “Ned” Stark, known for his sense of honor and justice, who becomes closest adviser to King Robert (Addy).

Harrington will play Jon Snow, Bean’s bastard son, and Lloyd will play Viserys, a powerless ruler who seeks to marry off his sister to a powerful king. Gleeson will play Joffrey, King Robert’s son.

Peter Dinklage also is in the cast for the production, which is in the pilot stage and begins shooting in October in Ireland.

Guymon Casady, Carolyn Strauss, Vincent Gerardis and Martin also are executive producing.

[WARNING: RANT W/ SPOILERS BELOW]

If you’ve read the books, you know what happens to Lord Eddard Stark.  Now, I have to pull a cheesy, falling-to-my-knees “Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!”.  Sean dies AGAIN?!?
