SDCC 2011: Futurama News, Game, Free App

The Futurama panel was a shipful o’ fun.  Panelists were Matt Groening, Billy West, Katey Sagal and John DiMaggio. It started with a clip of the finale – started at the wrong speed, “awkward” but fixed – and YOU MUST SEE IT. It’s in anime style, complete with bad translations and effects, and it was a RIOT.

But coming back from the clip, the big news was announced: Futurama has been renewed for two more seasons. I gotta say, I haven’t watched this show in a while, but that finale clip means I’ve added Futurama to my DVR list. Yes really.

Other excellent news: the new free app Head in a Jar Creator is available right now on iTunes. It features all new artwork, and is a crackup. Check it out, and make sure to un-mute it:

There is apparently an issue preventing Facebook sharing at the moment, though you can share your heads through your phone’s photo library, but a fix is reportedly on its way.

The other announcement was that there is a Futurama version of Monopoly being released in the fall. Here’s that info:

Oh. Your. God! America’s most popular board game is getting a 31st century spin! In New New York, you’ll use your millions to buy, sell, and trade properties from the animated series. From Mom’s Friendly Robot Company to Planet Express Headquarters, you can also build Resi-domes and People Hives as you battle for control of the galaxy.

MONOPOLY®: Futurama Collector’s Edition will be available this fall.

Another hour, another great panel.

Futurama airs Fridays at 10/9c. on Comedy Central.
