Sam Neill Says No Stan Winston, No Michael Crichton, No Jurassic Park IV

Last year, director Joe Johnston (Jurassic Park III, Captain America: The First Avenger) spoke about his plans for a fourth Jurassic Park film. The director said that there was a great story planned for a fourth outing that was nothing like the first three and took the franchise off in a completely new direction.

The director said,

“it likely won’t be another storyline about a group of people struggling to survive a dinosaur attack.

“We’ve done that and it’s been done three times…”

“Why would anybody go back to that island? It was hard enough to figure out the second and third reason for them to go, but it would take it off in a whole other trilogy basically, but when it gets to that level it’s sort of about studios and Steven [Spielberg’s] thing and who knows. I think we are at that point where we are due for another one if we are going to do it.”

While recently speaking with MTV, actor Sam Neill (Alcatraz) who portrayed paleontologist Dr. Alan Grant in Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park III says that Jurassic Park IV is not going to happen:

“I think we’ve told the story. I think it’s done, [Legendary effects expert] Stan Winston who made those beautiful dinosaurs died. So, no Stan, no ‘Jurassic Park’ really … [and author Michael] Crichton died too.”

“I’ll tell you what. If Michael Crichton time travels, writes the book [and] Stan time travels, [and] reanimates dinosaurs, then absolutely.”

Who’s right, director or actor? Who knows? It’s really up to Universal and with Jurassic Park being a proverbial money printing franchise, I seriously doubt we’ve seen the last of the Dinos… even if we have seen the last of Dr. Grant.
