Sam Mendes Abandons PREACHER For BOND 23

Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes (Road to Perdition) will no longer helm the comic book adaptation Preacher, which he’s abandoned for MGM’s 23rd James Bond movie. In a recent interview, producer Neal Moritz spoke about Preacher and says that with Mendes officially off the project, they’re now in discussions with another (unnamed) director to take on the project.

John August (Big Fish) wrote the latest draft has apparently planned for a three movie arc of the nine volume comic series and Moritz told Collider,

“Instead of trying to cram everything into one, there’s plenty of room for two or three movies. He’s done a really faithful adaptation.”

Moritz said,

“We were talking about directors and we were kicking around some lofty names, and [August] said ‘you know, if you don’t get one of those, I’d be interested in it.’ I said ‘We’ll talk about it’”

PREACHER is a Vertigo Comic about a preacher, his girlfriend, and a vampire who travel around the United States to find God. The preacher was possessed by a thing called Genesis which rivals the powers of God himself. God has the answers about preacher’s powers that he so desperately needs.
