Rupert Sanders (The Low Dweller) is set to direct Universal Pictures‘ forthcoming take on the fairy tale, Snow White. The film is entitled Snow White and the Huntsman, and was written by Evan Daugherty (Rusty Forkblade, Shrapnel).
According to THR, the film will be produced by Joe Roth (Alice in Wonderland) and will expand the role of the Huntsman, who only had a cameo in the original story. In Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, he is ordered to take Snow White into the woods and kill her, but decides to let her run free. In Snow White and the Huntsman, he will actually be chained to the her for part of the movie while they make their escape.
Walt Disney Pictures was not approached for the project, as they currently have their own film in production that uses Snow White as a foundation. Disney’s story is about a young British girl who is trained to fight by seven Shaolin monks entitled, Snow and the Seven. Brett Ratner is also producing a faithful adaptation of the myth for Relativity Media entitled, The Brothers Grimm: Snow White.
