Verifiable details on director Zack Snyder‘s (Sucker Punch) forthcoming Superman reboot have been, and will continue to be hard to come by… especially with the added component of producer Christopher Nolan‘s (The Dark Knight Rises) notorious, vault-like secrecy.
That being said, if the rumors are true, it seems as though we may not only have a Lex Luthor free Superman movie, but a Zod free Superman movie as well. MovieNewz claims that Snyder’s reboot will take on Lois Lane’s father, General Sam Lane, and Metallo.
The site’s source claims:
“General Sam Lane, the father of Lois Lane, is a central figure in director Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot. This really is as Zack described in several interviews about the film, a “real world” Superman. I’m told that when Superman arrives on the scene; people don’t know what to think. He’s an alien from another planet. What are his real intentions? He’s not human and that scares a lot of people. Here’s a guy who can fly, see through walls, is bullet proof and can lift a tank. The military views him as a potential threat to national security. They find kryptonite, pieces of his home planet, and discover its radioactive elements can be harnessed as a near unlimited source of power, both literally and figuratively. It’s a brand new form of energy that is secretly developed by the government. The military, under the direction of General Sam Lane, uses kryptonite to power an experimental cyborg super solider named Metallo. He’s ultimately exploited as a weapon against Superman.”
Check out what they claim to be the film’s synopsis below.
“In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is a young twenty-something journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone’s imagination. Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, an advanced alien planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question – Why am I here? Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Diane Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), Clark soon discovers that having super abilities means making very difficult decisions. But when the world needs stability the most, it comes under attack. Will his abilities be used to maintain peace or ultimately used to divide and conquer? Clark must become the hero known as “Superman,” not only to shine as the world’s last beacon of hope but to protect the ones he loves.”
Although Brian Austin Green played a version of Metallo on The CW‘s long-running series Smallville and the character has appeared in numerous animated series, if the rumors are true, this would mark his first appearance on the big-screen.
In other Superman news…
Back in February, I brought you a rumor (because I thought it was hilariously nonsensical) via TMZ that Lindsay Lohan (Machete) was rumored for a non-Lois Lane role in Zack Snyder‘s Superman reboot. The actress was said to have had several phone conversations with the producers and was supposed to meet personally with the “Superman” people.
Now, RadarOnline reports that Lohan will read for a role in Superman, in front of producers sometime in the near future. A source close to Lohan told them that “Lindsay plans to return from New York on Wednesday and meet with producers and read with an actor who is up for the role of Lex Luther“.
[The Shakedown]
Aside from the source close to Lohan spelling “Luthor” incorrectly, if any of this holds an ounce of truth, either Snyder is packing this film with every villain the big, blue boyscout has, or both claims are completely off reservation… what do you think? Let me know in the comments!
Superman (aka Superman: Man of Steel) is slated to hit theaters in 2012.
