Russell T. Davies misses aliens, while watching Torchwood: Miracle Day? So did we, as we counted exactly one alien, and that was Jack. Rumor has it that Torchwood: Miracle Day showrunner Russell T. Davies has made some comments in the yet-to-be-released DVD set which warrant a mention, and that’s one of them.
According to BlogtorWho, RTD and producer Julie Gardner provide commentary on episodes 1 and 10, and revealed some particularly interesting insights:
The topic of aliens was broached and how they “didn’t quite fit” in Miracle Day, with the following conversation:
RTD: I kind of thought, do you miss aliens? I do slightly.
JG: I do. I do miss aliens.
RTD: Oh, now we realise! If there’s another series I’d definitely do bigger aliens in it. More alien presence.Discussing the future of Torchwood, Davies states, “Will we ever come back again? I don’t know,” whilst Gardner adds, “I hope so.”
As a final tidbit, and somewhat sensational at that, Russell debates on whether or not Captain Jack was mortal during Miracle Day:
RTD: Was Jack ever mortal, that’s what we’ll never know. ‘Cos I think, by the way, that he was a fixed point in time and space that I’m not sure he was ever mortal during the whole story. We never got to prove it because we never killed him.
JG: [STUNNED SILENCE]
RTD: That’s thrown you.
JG: Oh my god!
RTD: If The Doctor says someone is a fixed point in time and space, then they’re a fixed point in time and space.
JG: I am horrified!
Well! Mr. Davies has once again proven to be a rabble-rouser. He’s even rattled his production partner. We’re still smarting about that “now we realise” about the aliens comment. If they’d asked us ahead of time, we could have told them that aliens are a must, and maybe they could have done something about that…
According to that same post, the DVD set will be available next month in the UK. No word yet about a US release.
