Rumor Has It! The Master in Doctor Who’s 50th Anniversary Year Will Be…

2013 will mark the 50th anniversary of sci-fi fandom favorite Doctor Who, and current showrunner Steven Moffat has promised big things. We have heard that one of the big things may be that the mostly-nemesis of The Doctor known as The Master may be making an appearance, and may be played by the star of another Steven Moffat series known as Sherlock, currently shooting the second J.J. Abrams Star Trek movie, often rumored to be the next Doctor, Benedict Cumberbatch.

According to Express.co, “programme insiders” say the casting is “likely.” As a giant fan of John Simm, who played The Master most recently, I wish he would reprise the role he filled so wonderfully during Russell T. Davies‘ reign as showrunner and David Tennant‘s reign as the 10th Doctor, but he may be thought to be too closely tied to that era. As a giant fan of Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock, however, I can see myself quickly warming to the idea of his taking on the Master’s evil ways.

We will obviously keep you posted.
