Rumor Has It! MARVEL May Be Playing With Short Films To Augment The Marvel Universe

Last year, we brought to you word that Marvel Studios was reportedly planning to produce a series of low-cost movies based on lesser-known Marvel characters like Dr. Strange, Ka-Zar, Luke Cage, Dazzler, Power Pack and others. It looks like interest along those same lines has cropped up again.

According to Film School Rejects, Marvel may be looking to develop short films to augment the Marvel universe. A source close to Marvel stated that “the company is setting some of their staff writers to developing smaller characters in the Marvel universe for future projects.” Just as short films are a playground for directors to prove their chops, these proposed short films could be a testing ground for Marvel to see which characters could be developed into feature films.

With the success of Marvel comic book adaptations into films, this is an area in which Marvel could also use to grow awareness of the Marvel universe, say if the short is run before each screening of a Marvel movie.

So far, there is no confirmation in which characters will be developed into short films or how they will reach audiences, but two shorts are already in the can of Agent Phil Coulson, as played by Clark Gregg, that will be a special feature on the Thor and Captain America DVD and Blu-Ray release.

What Marvel character would you want to see a short film of?
