Rumor Has It! Karl Urban To Play Batman In New WB Television Series

Warner Bros. is reportedly is looking to launch another superhero series on the coattails of the Smallville series which is set to wrap its tenth and final season. There are rumors that Karl Urban’s (Star Trek, Dredd) name has been tossed into the hat to play the Caped Crusader in a new Batman live-action series.

It’s still very early in the development process but this series is to have “a real-world feel with young adult audiences in mind”. It will also feature the Joker as the baddie, but done in a way to “re-introduce The Joker as a completely new version and not step on Heath Ledger‘s memory/version, as WB knows this is a sensitive subject. They believe that the Joker alone will garner ratings through the roof and are already planning on a closed set with extremely tight security to prevent any leaked footage.”

Urban has already built up a foundation of geek cred with sci-fi/fantasy roles such as Eomer in Lord of the Rings, Vaako in Chronicles of Riddick, Dr. McCoy in J.J. Abram’s Star Trek, and Judge Dredd in the new Dredd reboot. Do you think he would be a good Bruce Wayne?

What will bring you to watch a new Batman television series? The Joker or Karl Urban as Batman? On the other hand, is it too soon to have another actor play The Joker after Heath Ledger’s death?
