We brought you a report earlier this month that Jamie Bell (Billy Elliot, The Adventures of Tintin) was rumored to have landed the role of Spider-Man. Now, Josh Hutcherson (Journey to the Center of the Earth) has reportedly scored the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man in director Marc Webb‘s (500 Days of Summer) Untitled Spider-Man Reboot for Columbia Pictures.
In addition to teasing The Lizard as the villain, Honor over at Blue Sky Disney says,
Word from my Bothans is that Sony has settled on “Journey to the Center of the Earth’s” Josh Hutcherson as the newly, high school bound Peter Parker. After several extensive test shoots were performed, Marc Webb and the top Sony $uits decided that Hutcherson was the right fit for the role and an offer was made and has been accepted.
Reps for Sony’s Columbia Pictures have not confirmed Hutcherson’s casting.
The Untitled Spider-Man Reboot is slated to hit theaters on July 3rd, 2012.

My growing hatred of casting rumors aside, I think it’s going to be a riot if we simply get rumors up until Comic-Con that each of the contenders have scored the role and then Columbia announces someone else that no one has ever even heard of.
