Rumor Has It! Johnny Depp To Play The Doctor In DOCTOR WHO Movie

Might there be a movie version of “Doctor Who” written by former showrunner Russell T. Davies in the works starring Johnny Depp? Rumors are circulating around this big screen project for the BBC television series whose legacy began in 1963.

Davies and Julie Gardner, who successfully rebooted the series in 2005, left the show to develop properties for BBC America and also to bring “Doctor Who” to new audiences via the big screen.

Davies has lofty goals for furthering the Who franchise:

“Bringing the Who franchise to the theaters is a regeneration for the character beyond the usual one. A theatrical release has a greater range and can reach millions of more people than just the fans. There will be brand new concepts and the film will be just as adventurous, scary and humorous as the television programme. But none of us working the film will forget what makes the character great and interesting and the long-time fans will not be disappointed because yes, the Daleks make an appearance.”

With Johnny Depp as the Doctor, it’s said that his Doctor will be “on a journey through time and space with a crew of volunteers treating humanity’s illnesses brought on by invading aliens. He cures the bubonic plague and then goes to Africa to fight Ebola.”

Granted, take this intel with a grain of salt. The storyline sounds… odd for the Doctor actually doing medical doctor-y stuff, but do you think that Russell T. Davies can pull of a “Doctor Who” movie? Will you accept Johnny Depp as the last of the Time Lords? This film was said to premiere in 2012.
