Rumor Has it! Affleck Was In Contention To Direct The Superman Reboot, Natalie Portman Could Play Lois Lane

Just yesterday, we brought you a report that Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan) was another name added to the contenders list of potential directors for Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures‘ upcoming reboot of Superman. The list also includes the likes of Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code), Zack Snyder (Watchmen, Sucker Punch), Matt Reeves (Let Me In), Tony Scott (Unstoppable) and Jonathan Liebesman (Battle: Los Angeles).

Now, THR reports that actor/director Ben Affleck whose critical and box office success, The Town made the folks over at Warner Bros. take notice and Affleck had been put on the contenders list to direct The Man of Steel’s reboot, he reportedly met with the team and has passed on the project.

Another interesting addition to the Aronofsky story from yesterday – Clint over at Moviehole reports that a friend whom worked with Darren Aronofsky on Black Swan claims “that the filmmaker has actually “been talking about this for a while” and that they don’t think talks have “progressed beyond the suggestion of having Nat[alie Portman] be Lois. They wanted her first time around, this time they can get her – with Darren.

The Portman story should obviously be taken with a grain or 5,000 of salt, as it is all rumor and no one has yet signed on to the reboot but, should Aronofsky end up helming the film, it’s not out of the question that he would bring his Black Swan star over to the leading lady role in the Supes reboot.

Superman: Man of Steel is slated to hit theaters in 2012.
