Robopocalypse: Cloverfield Screenwriter Hired, Spielberg May Direct

Back in November, DreamWorks Studios and Doubleday acquired Daniel H. Wilson’s unpublished manuscript for Robopocalypse , which tells the story of “the fate of the human race following a robot uprising.” Now, Deadline is reporting that Cloverfield screenwriter Drew Goddard has been hired to pen the big screen adaptation and they are speculating that Steven Spielberg might make a return to the directors chair for Robopocalypse.

Daniel H. Wilson is a contributing editor for Popular Mechanics, and has a Ph.D. in robotics from Carnegie Mellon University’s Robotics Institute. Wilson has also written many books (as sci-fi geeks) you may have heard of, like – The Mad Scientist Hall of Fame: Muwahahaha!, How to Survive a Robot Uprising: Tips on Defending Yourself Against the Coming Rebellion (which was already picked up by Paramount Pictures), How To Build a Robot Army: Tips on Defending Planet Earth Against Aliens, Ninjas, and Zombies, Where’s My Jetpack?: A Guide to the Amazing Science Fiction Future That Never Arrived, and his next book, Bro-Jitsu: The Martial Art of Sibling Smackdown which has already been picked up by Nickelodeon Movies, and should hit theaters next year.

Based on his knowledge and obsession with robots, publisher Doubleday’s (Who is producing Robopocalypse) Executive Editor and Vice President Jason Kaufman says of Wilson,

“grounds his story with a frightening level of realism and he has created an exhilarating story that we think audiences will really respond to.”
