Rise of the Apes Gets New Title With Unnecessarily Added Words

Just last month, 20th Century Fox had rescheduled the release of the Rupert Wyatt directed Rise of the Apes from November 23rd, 2011 to August 5th, 2011. The movie has been called everything from just Caesar to Caesar: Rise of the Apes, and for at least the last few months, Rise of the Apes. Now, 20th Century Fox has decided on a new title.

According to the studio, the film’s title is now Rise of the Planet of the Apes (doesn’t really roll of the tongue does it?). The film is set in present-day San Francisco where a string of genetic experiments leads to apes becoming intelligent and creating a power struggle between the apes and humans.

Can you just picture the studio suits all sitting at a boardroom meeting and someone saying “the title is too short and simplistic…ya know what it needs? It needs at least one more “of” and one more “the”, how can we wedge those in there?” Of course another, more influential suit thought it was a great idea and it probably took them hours, if not days to add in the Planet of the Apes part of the new title.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes, directed by Rupert Wyatt and starring James Franco, Brian Cox, Andy Serkis, John Lithgow, Freida Pinto and Tom Felton is slated to hit theaters on August 5th, 2011.
