R.I.P. Futurama?

futurama“Futurama” fans, this may elicit a WTF reaction from you:  The show might be totally recast with new voice actors.

Last month, when producing studio, 20th TV, and Comedy Central announced that there will be 26 new eps of “Futurama” in 2010, a deal had not been reached with the original voice actors.  Show co-creator, Matt Groening, experienced similar problems with “The Simpsons” voice cast back in 1998.  The pay dispute for the original cast of “The Simpsons” voice actors was settled after 20th TV hired casting directors to recast the show and the original cast was signed back on.

Cross your fingers and let’s hope it is the same case here.  This will undoubtedly be a topic of discussion at the “Futurama” Comic Con panel with show creators, Matt Groening and David X. Cohen.

What would “Futurama” be without the original voice cast?

futurama_bender[Rant] On the one hand, this bullish move by the studio is meant to scare the original voice cast into dropping their pay dispute, but on the other hand, this is a show with a strong fanbase and its actors should get their due.  Times are tough for everyone right now, but come on guys, let’s get to an agreement and get on with the show!  Fans are eagerly awaiting you to take them back to the 30th century and to laugh with the wacky shenanigans of the Planet Express team.
