Synopsis:

Collecting the new 4-issue mini series for the first time.

Tank Girl turns angel of mercy in this latest adventure. Our foul-mouthed heroine sets off on an illegal cross-continental race in a bid to win enough money for an incredibly expensive operation to bring her best friend Barney out of a skateboard-accident induced coma. Its a no weapons barred, haul-arse wacky race across endless desert and tortuous mountain passes. But thats never stopped Tank Girl before!

“Where’s the magnum of cheap champagne and the girls with the big melons?” – Tank Girl

Though I’ve always been a fan of Tank Girl comics, it’s been quite some time since I’ve read the adventures of the sarcastic, back-talking, foul mouthed Tankie, mostly because I’ve been immersed in the more traditional super hero/super heroine comics as of late. Getting my hands on a copy of the trade paperback, Tank Girl: Skidmarks was a treat, and delivers the trademark humor, violence, vulgarity and off the wall action that one comes to expect from Tanks… in spades.

Written by co-creator Alan Martin and illustrated by the purely awesome Rufus Dayglo (Judge Dredd), Tank Girl: Skidmarks tells the story of Tank and her number one mutated kangaroo mate Booga, as they enter a once-every-twenty-years, no rules race across the Australian Outback called The Watermelon Run. Our heroes have hopes of winning the 20 billion dollar prize in order to pay for a very expensive surgery for Tank’s friend Barney. The operation to fix Barney after a coma-inducing skateboarding accident conveniently costs the twenty-billion dollar prize money (give or take a million) for winning the race. With the help of Jet Girl and Dee Dee Ramone, Tank Girl and Booga try to finish the race and win the prize money.

Because this is Tank Girl, the trip to the finish line features plenty of absurdity and surreal craziness along the way to entertain you, and keep you snickering as you root for Tank and her pals to finish the race. Is it raunchy and rude? Absolutely, it’s Tank Girl! Is it a lot of fun and worth the read? Absolutely, it’s Tank Girl!

I give Tank Girl: Skidmarks Five out of Five Stars
