The highly anticipated fourth installment in the Resident Evil series, Resident Evil: Afterlife, based on the popular video game opened this weekend and debuted at number one. The film had a production budget of $60 million and garnered an opening weekend box office take of $27.7 million.
Resident Evil: Afterlife was written and directed by Paul W.S. Anderson and stars Milla Jovovich, Ali Larter, Kim Coates, Shawn Roberts, Sergio Peris-Mencheta, Spencer Locke, Boris Kodjoe and Wentworth Miller.
Milla Jovovich spoke to NYMag about the success of this film, and getting ideas from fans on twitter for the sequel:
“This new Resident Evil is the first one to ever open at number one worldwide. It’s the biggest movie in the franchise. So we’re definitely going to make another one. We’ve been talking to a lot of fans on Twitter and stuff, so it’s probably going to be one of the first movies where we really talk to fans to see what they want, and what characters they want to see. It’s going to be a more interactive process.”
Resident Evil: Afterlife is in 2D and 3D theaters now.
