RED SONJA: Robert Rodriguez Explains The Delay

Just this past week, we brought you the news that Rose McGowan had been cast in Marcus Nispel’s CONAN. While we were happy to hear it, we did wonder about Robert Rodriguez’s RED SONJA, which was supposed to star McGowan. Luckily, the folks over at MTV were wondering the same thing, and sat down with Rodriguez at SXSW and asked him about the delay.

Robert Rodriguez said that it was more legal and financing issues that have been the cause for the delay in bringing RED SONJA to theaters than anything else.

Rodriguez said,

“If I kept the project myself, we could’ve just made it, but it belonged to another company that had financing problems… They had to wait until they made a couple of other movies first.”

One of those movies has just begun production, Rodriguez said,

“They’re actually waiting until they make the Conan movie before they do that – to see how that works for them.”
