R.I.P. John Hicklenton

Artist John Hicklenton, best known for his work on 2000 AD, Judge Dredd Megazine and Nemesis The Warlock has passed away at the age of 42 after a long battle with multiple sclerosis. Hicklenton was an advocate for better treatment of MS sufferers, appearing in the award-winning documentary Here’s Johnny to raise awareness of the neurological illness.

2000 AD founder Pat Mills broke the news via the comic’s forums.

He said,

“John Hicklenton passed away peacefully last week. His ending was an expected one and he saw it as a triumph over his illness MS, Amongst his final words to me were, ‘MS – you have a week to live, you’ve met someone you shouldn’t have f**ked with’. A great artist and a true hero.”

[Note]

On behalf of everyone here at SciFi Mafia (contributors and readers alike), I would like to extend our sympathies to all of John Hicklenton’s friends and family. John was a great artist and a fighter, he will be missed.
