PUSHING DAISIES Lives On In Bryan Fuller’s New Graphic Novel

Pushing Daisies” fans, rejoice! Even though the show was canceled after only two seasons, fans of the show will be happy that the sleuthing adventures with the Pie Maker and his gang do not end after all!  Show creator, Bryan Fuller is writing a graphic novel that continues the story.  Chi McBride (who played Det. Emerson Cod) has seen the first few pages of the graphic novel:

“Bryan’s doing a graphic novel. He sent me a couple pages. It was off the hook. It’s really good.”

Where does Fuller take the storyline and how will it differ from the show?  McBride could only tell of this juicy tidbit:

“Well, it’s a whole thing about a whole bunch of corpses coming to life. That’s all I know so far, but Bryan was kind enough to share the first few pages. It really looks good… It seems a little darker, which is a lot of things that Bryan couldn’t do.  There’s one particular story that I hope he does called ‘The Head.’ I wished he could’ve done it during the series. It was awesome.”

Pushing Daisies” was acclaimed for its art direction, photography, and costuming.  The look of the show was unlike any other show on the air at the time with a strong retro-inspired, super-saturated rich colors, and surreal method of shooting.  This visual style translates easily into graphic novels.  McBride says:

“Yeah, it does, but I haven’t seen it completed, so I want to see how it comes out. [It’s] pretty cool, pretty cool. It’s kind of fun to have that down there, because that’s around somewhere for all time, just like TV.”

McBride gave a nod to the loyal fans of “Pushing Daisies”:

“It is tough to let go of something you really like. We had an extremely loyal fan base, so I’m glad they’re going to be able to get something to continue on and more so, wrap up the continuation of these characters’ lives.”

No word yet on when this graphic novel will hit stands, but keep it here on SciFi Mafia for more “Pushing Daisies” news.

McBride can be seen on his new show, “Human Target” on Fox.  Click here for more on “Human Target”.
