Philip Seymour Hoffman Confirmed for Plutarch Heavensbee Role In THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE

Last week, we told you that Jena Malone (Hatfields & McCoys, Sucker Punch) had won the role of the ax-wielding previous winner of the Hunger Games, Johanna Mason, over the rumored front-runner, model/actress Zoe Aggeliki (R.I.P.D., Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters).

Now, we’ve got confirmation from Deadline that Philip Seymour Hoffman (The Master, Mission: Impossible III) has indeed signed on to play the major role of Plutarch Heavensbee, the Head Gamemaker that fills Seneca Crane’s shoes in the second book of the best-selling book trilogy. This role will be expanded in the third book, Mockingjay, so expect to see even more of Hoffman in the Hunger Games movies. Francis Lawrence is directing this second installment of this series of films. Hoffman joins Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, Jena Malone, and Josh Hutcherson on the cast.

Synopsis:

Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is slated to hit theaters on November 22nd, 2013.
