Panic Attack! Director Signs A Deal With Raimi’s Ghost House Pictures

Well, that was fast, Sam Raimi and Ghost House Pictures have apparently scored one Federico Alvarez, who will apparently be the Neill Blomkamp to Sam Raimi’s – Peter Jackson. Last Month we posted a short film from Federico Alvarez called Panic Attack!, which apparently attracted a lot of attention in Hollywood. Now, the Uruguayan newspaper El País is reporting that Alvarez has signed a contract with Sam Raimi’s production company and is set to make his feature film debut with a $30 to 40 million Sci-Fi film.

While the original article is in Spanish, apparently Raimi spoke with Federico Alvarez on the phone for an hour and a half and the two seemed to hit it off. The idea is for Raimi to shield him from the business side of things in order to give him the freedom to make the movie he wants (ala Peter Jackson/Neill Blomkamp). The project was hastily developed over Alvarez’s two week whirlwind trip to Los Angeles and will be shot in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Montevideo, Uruguay. It’s unclear whether or not the story will simply be a big screen version of Panic Attack! or even loosely based on it.
