Once Upon a Time Casts Two New Princesses; Comic-Con Season 2 Poster Revealed

It’s looking like the ratio of royalty to commoners in Storybrooke is going to be a little out of whack come Season 2, as word comes of two new Disney princesses cast for Once Upon a Time. (In case you didn’t get the Mickey Memo, in the world of Disney animated movies, “princess” is a generic term for the heroine.)

This should be good – one of the new characters is Mulan. Disney adapted the Chinese poem of a young woman who served in the army in place of her elderly father, in their 1998 animated movie of the same name. For the Storybrooke version, EW broke the news that Jamie Chung (Sucker Punch) has been cast. We hope that Ms. Chung’s action-movie resume will be put to good use in the new gig.

From one of the newer Disney movies to one of the older ones, we also have word via TVLine that Princess Aurora – the princess from Sleeping Beauty – will be played by Irish Sarah Bolger (The Tudors, and Kinsey Locke in the tragically never-picked-up pilot Locke & Key). If you remember your fairy tale history you’ll recall that Maleficent is the one who cursed baby Aurora, so hopefully that means we’ll also be seeing more of Kristen Bauer von Straten in the upcoming season.

And finally, we have the Season 2 poster for the show, which will be unveiled officially at Comic-Con next week; attendees of their panel are likely hoping that they’ll each get one to take home. We’ll probably also get the fall premiere date during that panel, which takes place on Saturday the 14th.

Will Mulan lead an army against the dark smoke invading Storybrooke? Will Aurora just sleep through the whole thing? We’ll keep you posted.

Once Upon a Time Season 2, starring Jennifer Morrison, Ginnifer Godwin, Josh Dallas, and Robert Carlyle, will air Sundays this fall at 8/7c on ABC.
