News From The Stargate: Shanks On SGU And Possibility of SG1 & SGA Movies

michael_shanksIf you’re missing Dr. Daniel Jackson, don’t worry, he’ll be in this season’s Stargate: UniverseMichael Shanks will have a guest appearance late in the season as well as a cameo in the series premiere.

Shanks on the series premiere:

“It’s a cameo.  It’s a popping in, popping out kind of thing.  They’ve got a lot of cast that they definitely need to facilitate. Certainly the Stargate audience knows my character and Richard [Dean Anderson]’s character and Amanda [Tapping]’s character and the others that show up very well. So they have to spend some time developing their world and fleshing out their characters. So I’m just a face.”

SG: U premieres on October 2nd on Syfy with a two-hour ep.

In other Stargate news, SG:U exec producer, Robert C. Cooper, has written scripts for a SG-1 and SG Atlantis films.  :pause for a second while I jump around for joy:  But the projects have not been green-lit yet.

Cooper talks about the potential movies at the SG:U promotion at the Television Critics Association summer press tour:

“We’re ready to go.  We’re just waiting for the right opportunity…  We want to be successful with it. The studio wants to be successful, and we really don’t want to proceed with something in the wrong climate, which I think financially it is right now.”

stargate-continuum-dvd-boxartThere have been two other SG-1 movies that went straight to DVD: “Continuum” and “The Ark Of Truth”.  Both of these despite sold well, but timing with the economy seems to be the main concern.

What will these SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis films cover? Cooper explains:

“They would stand alone.  The Atlantis one takes place shortly after the end of season five. The SG-1, I think, takes place sometime in an intermediary period between when the SG-1 movies left off and when Universe began.”

Till then, fans of the Stargate franchise can enjoy a new compilation of Stargate: Atlantic eps “Fan’s Choice” that just came out on August 4th.
