Director Rupert Wyatt had a theatrical hit with Rise of the Planet of the Apes, which starred James Franco, Freida Pinto, John Lithgow, Brain Cox, and the motion-capture talents of Andy Serkis which scored almost $500 million worldwide for 20th Century Fox.
Now, THR reports that Scott Z. Burns (Contagion) has been hired to pen the as yet Untitled Rise of the Planet of the Apes Sequel, which is said to take “the story to the next level, with the apes on the path to emerge as society’s new rulers“. Writers of the original film, Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa were brought back to write a draft of the sequel as well, and director Rupert Wyatt and Andy Serkis are already signed on to return for the follow-up.
No release date has been announced for the as yet Untitled Rise of the Planet of the Apes Sequel.
