This season of The Vampire Diaries has been the best yet. Lots of unexpected twists, turns, and deaths, not too much weepy pining, and no sign of it slowing in the least. Keep your ears open for references to New Orleans; remember, the spinoff series The Originals will be set there, and they’ve already started dropping in a few bon mots.
We can expect that the next few episodes will be especially epic, since February is “sweeps” period, when all the networks’ Nielsen ratings are closely scrutinized, and therefore when all the networks want their strongest shows and episodes to be showcased. As they have done in past sweeps periods, The Vampire Diaries has released a special poster:
Okay, I admit it, I am even more intrigued.
To refresh your memory about last week’s episode, check out the Rehash – these featurettes are pretty funny, and they quote viewers’ tweets, so make sure to tweet live using the #TVD hashtag and maybe we’ll be seeing yours in the next installment.

The TV spot and clip confirm that we’ll be getting just as many new questions as we get answers – though I don’t expect we’ll ever get the answer to how they expect us to believe that any of these characters are high school students.
