Battlestar Galactica fans can never get enough of BSG spinoffs! The latest news is a new online series entitled “Blood & Chrome” following young William “Husker” Adama during the first Cylon war. In this new prequel series, we will see young Adama’s “initiation into war: both the realities of war as fought by soldiers on the ground and the somewhat less real version portrayed in the media.”
Michael Taylor, BSG and Caprica’s co-executive producer, will be penning the script. Blood & Chrome will have a total of nine or ten episodes of about ten minutes running time each. It will be filmed with a green screen background and employ virtual sets much like SyFy’s Sanctuary as many of the Galactica sets were scanned in three-dimensionally. Taylor remarks on the possibility of a 3-D set:
“I’ve seen the virtual, 3D version of CIC [‘Battlestar’s’ Combat Information Center] and it’s pretty damn cool. And yet the movie isn’t confined to Galactica. Far from it. It’s a story that will take us to new corners of the ‘Battlestar’ world (or worlds), and yet it aims to be a very contemporary war movie in a lot of ways. I would say I’m thinking as much of Afghanistan and Iraq–the reality of ‘Hurt Locker,’ Sebastian Junger’s ‘Restrepo,’ and similar movies–as I am about the largely implied past of ‘Battlestar.'”
Casting for young Adama in Blood & Chrome is unknown at this point. Nico Cortez had played the role in Razor, but this series will predominantly have a whole new cast.
