New ‘Ponyo’ Trailer From Walt Disney’s Domestic Release


Walt Disney Pictures released a new trailer for the domestic release of “Ponyo“, a Japanese animation inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Little Mermaid”.  “Ponyo” was written and directed by the Academy Award winning director and animator Hayao Miyazaki (Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro) and is already a box-office hit in Japan (titled “Gake no ue no Ponyo”). “Ponyo” has already won several awards for animation and score at the Venice Film Festival in 2008 and Mainichi Film Concours, Awards of the Japanese Academy, and Asian Film Awards this year.

Voice talent on the domestic dub includes: Noah Cyrus as Ponyo, Cate Blanchett, Matt Damon, Tina Fey, Cloris Leachman, Liam Neeson, Lily Tomlin, Betty White and Frankie Jonas as Sosuke, a young boy who befriends Ponyo.

Look for “Ponyo” next Friday, August 14, 2009.
