We brought you a report a few days ago that director Neill Blomkamp (District 9) could be heading to Middle Earth to replace Guillermo del Toro as director of The Hobbit. That story was fairly plausible considering the relationship between Blomkamp and Peter Jackson.

TheOneRing who originally brought forth that story did caution that it was a rumor but now it seems that Blomkamp’s agency, William Morris Endeavor has debunked that rumor via NYMag and stated that no one from MGM or Warner Bros. has approached them about Blomkamp directing the film.

They also reported that Blomkamp’s new, original sci-fi film will be entitled Elysium and they said that the “storyline is being closely guarded” but it is believed that this film will be set on another planet.
