Neil Gaiman’s SANDMAN Heads To TV With Supernatural Creator Eric Kripke

The latest news for a live-action adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s iconic comic Sandman (1989 – 1996) is showing movement from Warner Bros TV who is developing a television show out of the comic. The project is still reportedly in the early stages with the WB TV in the process of acquiring the television rights from DC Entertainment and still hunting for the right writers and producers for the show. A positive sign is that Supernatural creator, Eric Kripke, is on the top of their list.

Kripke is “interested in tackling an adaptation but cautious because the comic book has such a passionate following and is held in such high regard.”

An interesting thing to note is that Gaiman is not involved with the project yet, but it seems highly likely that if Gaiman gets on board, this project with the WB TV could be full-steam-ahead.

Sandman can be described as an “episodic anthology”, following “the tale of Morpheus, the Lord of the Dreaming, a deity who personifies dreams. The book began in the horror realm but quickly made its mark in fantasy and mythology as Gaiman introduced the Endless, a group of powerful brothers and sisters named Destiny, Death, Destruction, Despair, Desire and Delirium (as well as Dream).”

A movie version was talked about since the mid 1990’s, but it became apparent that a television show would be a more suitable format for adapting Sandman. Previous efforts to adapt Sandman for television had been made by James Mangold (Mute Witness, Knight and Day) with HBO and DC, but that project never came to fruition.

What do you think of this news? Are you on board if Kripke and Gaiman are on board? Is it a “go” this time?
