NBC’s Munsters Reboot Casts Its Grandpa and He is Cool

We told you last month that NBC‘s reboot of  The Munsters, entitled Mockingbird Lane, had been delayed due to casting issues. We’re very happy to report that they are now in fact in the process of securing a casting coup: Eddie Izzard (Oceans 13United States of Tara, Treasure Island) as Grandpa.

TVLine is reporting that the popular British standup comedian is “nearing a deal” for the role in the pilot, written by Pushing DaisiesBryan Fuller, that is said to be a “visually spectacular one hour drama.”

We’re really hoping that both are true; that Eddie Izzard will be Grandpa, and that the show will be a visually spectacular one hour drama. Izzard could definitely bring an entirely different vibe to the show. And we know that Bryan Fuller has credibility on the “visually spectacular” front, as the Pushing Daisies set was total eye candy.

Will Mockingbird Lane be to the original Munsters what the new Battlestar Galactica was to the original Battlestar Galactica? And if so, wouldn’t that be GREAT?

We’ll keep you posted.
