NBC’s DAY ONE- Now Only A Miniseries

dayone_cast-wideNBC is backing away on “Day One”, downgrading it from its original status as a midseason show to air after the Olympics coverage to now only a miniseries.  This apocalyptic scifi show was originally announced as a 13 episode series, but will run as a 4 hour miniseries, presumably due to cost cutting measures by the network.

NBC’s strategy is now to watch and see how the miniseries is received before ordering the show as a full series.  This is similar to the situation with SyFy’s “Battlestar Galactica” as it was revised in format before the network committed to a full series.

Half of the miniseries is reportedly ‘in the can’.  Show creator and producer, Jesse Alexander is hopeful and states:

“I’ve been in discussions with the network for some time about the best way to launch what I truly feel is an awesome television program.”
