Here’s an interesting new trend in TV series, or at least proposed TV series. Last January we saw a (spoiler) viral outbreak on Helix, on The Strain we have a vampire zombie viral outbreak, and The Lottery featured a pandemic that caused global infertility. Now comes word that NBC has purchased a demon viral outbreak dramatic series project for development.

According to Deadline, NBC bought the project, entitled Maidenhead, from Sony Television‘s Davis Entertainment, written by Source Code‘s Ben Ripley, to be directed by James Wan (The Conjuring; writer/director of Saw). The story is reportedly a “medical procedural wrapped in a very realistic, frightening supernatural drama.”  In this one, a scientist and his team investigate a contagion spreading in a well-off community, that presents as demonic possession.

The development agreement apparently includes a substantial penalty if it doesn’t go forward, so here’s hoping. We’ll keep you posted.
