More Sci-Fi Video Game Goodness from E3, MASS EFFECT 3, Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, Star Trek

E3 is sh!tting all kinds of rainbows this year for video game fans. Yesterday I slapped yous guys in the face with not one but TWO amazing trailers for the Bioware MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic, as well as a short, but pretty sweet teaser for Halo 4. Today we’ve got some more goodness in store.

Mass Effect 3

Another mark of quality in Bioware’s Epic Belt of Conquest, the Mass Effect series is cinematic in it’s narrative scope; each game further enriches a fictional world and characters that are damn near literary in their quality. This is a video game for ANYONE who just loves a damn good sci-fi story. It looks like the big feature on ME3 (besides being awesome) is the ability to speak your dialogue choices when interacting with the other characters of the game. This may not seem like a big deal on the surface, but if you’ve ever played one of these games, then you know how engrossing they can be. Talking to the characters definitely makes that even more amazing.

Ghost Recon: Future Soldier

I’m not really that big on real life war zone shooters. Video games are about the escapism for me, and if I’m shooting someone it better be aliens and with a BFG. If I wanted to shoot communists or Islamic radicals I would have joined the military and hoorah’d it up with the rest of the jar heads. That being said, Ghost Recon: Future Soldier looks like it could be pretty wicked. A lot of the stuff in the trailer looks like more science fiction than fact, but what do I know? I don’t work for a military r & d corporation.

Star Trek

I’m not too keen on video games based on movies that recycle story lines, but video games that take the characters FROM films and create a unique experience is a genius bit of marketing in my opinion. It’s been a couple years since we got our Star Trek fix, and it will likely be at least a couple more before a sequel to the J.J. Abrams reboot hits theaters. A stand alone third person co-0p shooter/adventure featuring the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise bearing the likenesses of the actors are a great way to whet the palates of scifi fans everywhere.
