More Hints About Season 2 of AMERICAN HORROR STORY

First, let’s recap what we have learned so far about Season 2 of American Horror Story. It will take place on the east coast instead of the west, with some actors from Season 1 returning to the show but as new and entirely opposite characters from what they played before.

Confirmed to return are of course the amazing Jessica Lange (Season 1’s Constance), Zachary Quinto (previous homeowner Chad), Evan Peters (mass murderer Tate), Sarah Paulson (psychic Billie Dean), and Lily Rabe (original owner Nora).

Now for the latest tidbits, fresh from a TV Academy panel earlier this week. According to THR, co-creator and co-showrunner Ryan Murphy once again confirmed that the second season would take place on the east coast, but further confirmed that it would take place “at an institution for the criminally insane that is run by Jessica.”

He confirmed that the “hint” about Season 2, that he had previously said could be found in the penultimate episode of Season 1, was something that Sarah Paulson‘s character Billie Dean said to Constance and Violet while in The House, about the existence of “places where evil collects,” caused by events and stored like energy, like prisons and asylums.

But wait, there’s more. “It’s a completely different world and has nothing to do with Season 1; there’s not a mention of Season 1 … The second season is set in a completely different time period.” Ooo!

And… he also hinted that additional actors from Season 1 may be making appearances in Season 2. “There will be other people up on this stage who are not announced who will also be in it but are playing the polar opposite of what they were in the first season in every way…” So, who else was there?

Joining Murphy on stage, along with co-creator/co-showrunner Brad Falchuk and executive producer Dante Di Loreto were the already-announced-for-Season-2 Jessica Lange, Evan Peters, Zachary Quinto (sporting Spock eyebrows!), Sarah Paulson, and Lily Rabe. But who else? Well, Mr. and Mrs. Harmon, Dylan McDermott and Connie Britton, were there, but Murphy had earlier announced that the actors playing the Harmons would get a season off.

So, who else?! Happily, Denis O’Hare (Larry the Burning Man) and Alexandra Breckenridge (young Moira). It would be so great to have them both! Here’s hoping.

The producers are reportedly presenting their plans for Season 2 to FX executives next week, after which the hope is that more details about the new season will come to light. We. Can’t. Wait.

American Horror Story, Season 2, starring Jessica Lange, Zachary Quinto, Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, and Lily Rabe, is expected to premiere in October, 2012, on FX.
