Longtime fans of sci-fi shows know that death doesn’t necessarily mean that your favorite actor is gone from the show forever. Sometimes you’ll see him or her in a flashback, sometimes playing a lookalike, sometimes in an alternate reality. Sometimes a death is simply a misunderstanding of how rules apply.
So when a representative of Warner Bros. Television, the studio behind Supernatural, announced that Misha Collins will be appearing in episode 17 of the current season of Supernatural, as happened yesterday, the first question one might ask is, “as who?” followed quickly by “of course, he may not have actually died, they only SAID he was dead” and then “CAN angels die?” and “ooo remember, we saw him as a human before Castiel took over his body, maybe he’ll be that human guy again” and then back to “I bet he didn’t actually die” and, well, you get the idea.
Here’s what we DO know: Misha Collins will definitely be in the 17th episode of the current season of Supernatural (last week’s episode was the 10th, and was the midseason finale). He will also be in two other episodes after that. We don’t even know if they will happen this season. “Please note that there’s really nothing else that we are able to add about these specific episodes or the details of his return at this time.”
So all those reports about Castiel returning? Pure conjecture. If he does return, however, we hope he’s back to brooding but supportive and good. It’s just a preference.
Supernatural, starring Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles, returns with new episodes on Friday, January 6 at 9/8c on The CW.
